THABANI band played to a sell out crowd at WESTWAY T.V's music show case in West London on 1st May 2008

The gig was a showcase for record industry people and the band have been approached and are in discussion with a prominent leading industry figure to release some of the remixes onto vinyl this year!! The band will also be filmed at the end of the month for a special 'LIVE IN PERFORMANCE' T.V programme at WESTWAY T.V where the band will be interviewed and be asked to perform 5 songs for the show.

THABANI INVITED TO NYC and U.S COLLEGE RADIO IN OCTOBER FOR C.M.J COLLGE MUSIC RADIO FESTIVAL!!

The band have been invited to perform for a second year in america at the CMJ college radio music festival, they will be featured on shows at SOB's in Manhattan, Club Groove Greenwich Village and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia PLUS college radio station WBMB have invited them to be special guests over in NYC and to play at their college showcase for BARAUCH COLLEGE in New York City!! t The band will fly out to NYC in Oct on the week of Oct 20th to Mon 27th October.

The band will also perform at college music festivals starting at MIDDLESEX UNIVERSITY 16th May where they will perform with RADIO 1'S ANNIE MAC!!! (see THABANI gig guide for dates) The band will then head off to KEELE UNIVERSITY on Friday 23rd May where they will HEADLINE the VIRGIN FESTIVAL "AVE IT!" The group then embark to Europe where they will play to 5,000 people in an open festival in AUSTRIA as they open for the VIENNA JAZZ FESTIVAL!! and then they will perform to a sell out crowd in GERMANY at the KNUST MUSIC FESTIVAL in Hamburg!! The band played 4 fantastic shows in Japan in Feb 2008! The shows were promoted by Parties 4 Peace in conjunction with Kultural Fusion Promotions. The Japanese crowds were wowed by funk, soul, afrobeat sounds of THABANI! and they have offered the band a return visit in November 2008. At a time when much R&B can be overly smooth, image-obsessed, and even formulaic, here comes Thabani out of London to remind us what soul music is all about.

Fronted by Zimbabwe native Tee Nyoni, who is possessed of a voice that reminds one at times of singers as diverse as Marvin Gaye and Terrence Trent d'Arby, this band can hit a groove with the best of them. But the added pleasure is the “conscious” lyrics, politically charged, socially aware, and totally relevant.

Thabani sways through the groove of the title track, adds an African choir to “Zimbabwe”, is up-front politically to a smooth soul beat on “Right 2 Demonstrate”, and delivers a wonderful slow burn on “Girl At The Window”.

Wrapping up with the old-school-style soul of “In Support of the Evidence”, and haunting, evocative “Sign of Rebellion”, Thabani can do it all.

Hailing from West London, THABANI the Roots-Soul collective combine Soul, Afro and Groove influences to their potent mix of 'brilliant front line' tunes with a modern contemporary edge.

Led by charismatic Zimbabwean singer and songwriter Tee Nyoni, together with a tight musical ensemble of brass, guitar, drums, African percussion and backing vocals, Record Collector said that THABANI produce a classic 'Soulful Wall Of Sound', with TIME OUT magazine saying 'Tee brings the energy of a young 'James Brown' the voice of 'Marvin Gaye' and the songwriting influences of Curtis Mayfield and Fela Kuti!!
